The South Fulton Running Partners was formed in 1979 to promote running, in the community, as a means to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

There were loads of shenanigans at the Saturday run. Routes that deadened into Trail Closed signs, runners that went right instead of left, zigged instead of zagged, fumbled and then stumbled, were lost and then found, got wet and then got soaked, had fun and then had a fantastic time. Towering pines, rocky climbs, and gentle streams set the stage for a warm wet December morning trail run at Sweetwater Creek State Park. #southfultonrunningpartners #sfrp #trailrunning

8:00 am , Saturday December 9, 2023, Sweetwater Creek State Park, 1750 Mt. Vernon Road, Lithia Springs, GA 30122, Picnic Shelter No. 7
Parking: ***Please note this is a state park with a nominal $5.00 fee to enter the park. There is plenty of parking, and the scenic views and tranquility will make the $5.00 totally worth it!***

Host remarks: Sweetwater Creek State Park is a peaceful tract of wilderness only minutes from downtown Atlanta. A wooded trail follows the stream to the ruins of the New Manchester Manufacturing Company, a textile mill burned during the Civil War. Beyond the mill, the trail climbs rocky bluffs to provide views of the beautiful rapids below. Additional trails wind through fields and forest, showcasing ferns, magnolias, wild azaleas, and hardwoods.

So, take a break from all the holiday shenanigans and excessive busyness that the holiday season sometimes brings, and take some much needed time to indulge in self-care, forest bathing (if you like), and the peacefulness of the 215 acre George Sparks Reservoir. 2, 3, and 5.2 mile routes

Congratulations to one of the founding South Fulto

Congratulations to one of the founding South Fulton Running Partner members William J. Stanley III, and his wife of over 45 years Ivenue Love-Stanley. Today the Atlanta City Council presented Mrs. Ivenue Love‐Stanley and Mr. William J. Stanley, III each with a proclamation in recognition of their contributions to the City of Atlanta through the field of architecture. Through their personal and professional contributions to the improvement of the Atlanta Way they earned recognition for leading the way as trailblazers whose footsteps Black students have been following for over a half century.
You can find their legacy and beautiful innovative designs throughout Metro Atlanta, across the country, and around the world. Their designs in Atlanta include the Olympic Aquatic Center for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, the historic Fulton County Courthouse, Ebenezer Baptist Church, the John Hope Hall Science Research Facility at Morehouse College, the Reynolds Cottage at Spelman College, the Thomas Cole Research Center at Clark Atlanta University, the Catholic Center at Atlanta University Center, B.E.S.T. Academy at Benjamin S. Carson All Male Middle and High School, and the Nanotechnology Research Center at Georgia Tech.
William J. Stanley III, is the founder and principal for design of the firm Stanley, Love-Stanley, P.C. In 1972 he became the first African-American graduate of Georgia Tech's College of Architecture. He began his private architectural practice in 1977. Ivenue Love-Stanley was the first African-American woman to graduate from Georgia Institute of Technology's College of Architecture. They met on his last day on campus and her first day on campus in 1972.

Saturday's run had both the expected and the surprising. Per the usual script the hills never flattened, however the anticipated morning rain never materialized. Under a lifting fog and overcast skies the Partners kept it moving on this opening December weekend. Thanksgiving Day races found Partners "earning the

Thanksgiving Day races found Partners "earning their bird" from Nevada to Georgia. In Las Vegas' Turkey Rock 10K/5K/1M they enjoyed breathtaking views of the mountains and the spectacular views of the strip in a race that started at 2710 ft elevation and went up about 100 feet per mile. It was a gradual uphill,then downhill back to the finish line. While in Atlanta the Invesco QQQ Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon event featured thousands of runners and walkers, who participated in everything from a half marathon, 5K, Mile, and Dash. Beginning near the Olympic Ring on Hank Aaron Drive, the half marathon went through downtown, midtown, Piedmont Park, Edgewood and more before making its way back to Summerhill. Welcome to South West Atlanta (aka the SWAT) by our host a native Atlantan who has lived his entire life in the SWAT. The run will take place in an area that was barricaded by whites who didn't want to allow blacks access to their property. During the run you will pass West Manor Elementary School, Peyton Forest Elementary School, Southwest High School (now Jean Childs Young Middle School), and a park named after neighbor Isabel Gates Webster. Come trot through the SWATs and enjoy the views!!

On Saturday and Sunday the Partners could be fourn

On Saturday and Sunday the Partners could be fournd racing around Atlanta. Saturday's Peachtree City Classic 5k and 51k had several Partners treading the golf cart paths and tunnels of Peachtree City, with three of them running their way onto the podium. Sunday had a few more Partners tackling the PNC 5k and 10 miler, celebrating Black Men Run's 10th Anniversary at the race, and exploring downtown and midtown Atlanta by foot. As a side note Don ran on both Saturday and Sunday and ascended to the top of the podium in both races.
